If You Can’t Fall Asleep, Wait 30 Minutes Before Trying Again
If attempts to fall asleep are unsuccessful, it’s advisable to distract yourself with something else for about 30 minutes, according to Michael Perlis, the director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
You can go to another room and engage in a relaxing activity, such as doing a small set of sleep exercises or reading. By the time you decide to return to bed, you’ll be greeted by the cool, comforting side of the pillow.
